LOUIS DERDEYN, ROESELARE, 1910

Louis Derdeyn was a music teacher, conductor, and composer who founded his own piano workshop in Roeselare, Belgium, in 1846. Initially, his pianos were handcrafted on a small scale. As demand for his instruments steadily increased, he opened a new, modern piano factory in 1878. This enabled the company to become highly successful by the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Derdeyn pianos were respected for their durability and their richly crafted cabinet work.
