SCHOOL OF JOHAN ANDREAS STEIN, SOUTHER GERMANY, 1799

From around 1770, Johann Andreas Stein was one of the most important piano makers who experimented with the development of the grand. He was not inspired by the designs of Cristofori and Silbermann, but he developed his own cabinet construction as well as a highly sensitive light-playing action.

The school of Stein was quickly chosen by German and Viennese builders for their instruments.

During restoration, we found a  signature and the date 1799 inside. Because of the construction of the case and the type of action identical to early Stein instruments, this instrument refers to the timbre and playing character of a much earlier period.
